How to Dress for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is Around the Corner

By Janine Giorgenti

Love is in the air (or so we can hope).

You’re thinking about taking your sweetheart to dinner. What should you wear on ‘date night’ to ignite the passion or rekindle the flame?

Women tend to understand how to work their wardrobes and find the right dressy outfit for a special occasion. For most men, however, it’s a challenge. Men seem to have the appropriate attire for work and laid-back casual clothing but, as for dressier occasions, this is where they struggle.

Women appreciate a well-dressed man.

Here are my suggestions to bring out that side of you that’s perfect for a date-night ensemble.

Coordinate your outfit.

I suggest a stylish sports coat in a dark textured pattern or an updated stylish navy or black blazer. Wear this with a well-fitting pair of flat front dress slacks.

Option 1 (Navy blazer with pink lapel and sleeve buttonhole, pink decorative lining. Pink check shirt and grey dress slacks)

Option 2 (Royal with maroon windowpane sports coat, maroon, buttonholes and lining, teamed with a carnation pink shirt, with pink buttons and navy dress slacks)

For a trendier look, try it with fitted jeans. The key here is the fit of the pants. They need to fit properly.

As for your shirt: Pink for Valentine’s Day is always a great choice, or you can go with dark colors that are trendy and cool. Go for a deep richer shade for the shirt, like black, charcoal or burgundy. These colors also serve as an illusionary trick for looking pounds thinner.

Try this: A royal and pink dress shirt, royal buttons, neck band, inner collar and inside sleeve cuff. Pink buttonholes.

Accessorize your outfit with a handsome pair of brown leather monk or wingtip shoes with a same-colored matching belt. Your date will notice the details and appreciate the effort you made.

Now for that extra pizzazz: Kill it with a solid-colored or patterned enhancing pocket square in the upper breast pocket of your sports coat and surprise her with a pair of decorative socks to finish off your outfit.
