Spring Wardrobe Turnaround

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb

By Janine Giorgenti

Spring is around the corner and we will soon be wearing lighter weight clothing. This week we’re wearing sweaters and jackets. Next week, we may be wiping the dust off our car’s ‘AC’ button.

The thought of switching our wardrobes – for some – can be a daunting, dreaded task.

Many of us have a closet stuffed with clothes, yet struggle with what to wear. This leads to wearing the same clothes over and over again.

Here are a few tips to help you escape the madness and turn your closet into into a friendly environment:

1. I know this sounds crazy but pull everything out of your closet.

Discard the clothes that you have not worn for two years. Odds are you will never wear them again.

2. Donate to a worthy charity clothes that don’t fit.

We all think we will fit into them again. I hate to break it to you, but most likely you won’t.

3. Say goodbye to your outdated clothes.

The last thing you want your clothes to say about you is that you’re “old news” and that your fashion taste is lagging.

4. Ditch clothes that are in poor condition, discolored, moth eaten, or frayed.

They just take up space and will give you a poor image.

5. Make a pile of summer clothes and fall winter clothes.

This will help you get organized. Make a pile of your fall clothes, to be stored – separately – till October Wash them before storing them, if need be.

6. Organize your clothes in groups.

For men: Make groups for your dress slacks, jeans, sport coats, dress shirts, suits, sweaters, T-shirts. etc.

For Women: separate your blouses, knits, sweaters, skirts, dresses, jeans and pants.

7. Get rid of accessories – like belts – that you will never wear, ties that are dated, and shoes that are beyond repair.

For women; donate handbags, scarfs, belts, shoes and accessories that you no longer wear.

Bonus – How to make your closet into a friendly (and more productive) environment.

The key is to color coordinate everything.

For example; sort all the whites together, follow suit with all your other clothing items (all the blue items together, gray items together, and all other colors together). This way, you will be able to coordinate and mix and match your outfits with ease and have everything at your finger tips.

Now step out in style with a closet full of – usable – clothes and less clutter in your life!
