0What to Wear on New Year’s Eve
Bring in the New Year, with Style
By Janine Giorgenti
We are just over a week away from ringing in 2016. Whether you’re celebrating in Times Square or at a small gathering at a friend’s place; I want you to look sensational when the countdown hits “zero”.
Despite the unseasonably warm weather, prepare for a cold evening! Make sure you wear a stylish topcoat, with a matching scarf, stylish winter hat, and gloves. You can read more about scarves and “completing the look” for outdoor fashion in this previous post. If you’re going to Times Square, you’re going to want to make sure you dress adequately warm – while maintaining a level of fashion that lets you stand out from the – very large – crowd.
Men should wear a stylish modern cut sport coat with trim flat front dress slacks, with an open collared shirt; or mock turtleneck. The key is to accessorize it with a nice quality belt and a pair of leather shoes. Brown monk straps are particularly in fashion. If they want to go trendy – a sport coat over well-fitting jeans is a great look.
If you’re going to be celebrating the new year at a black-tie event, make sure you fit the part. This is your chance to make your first impression of the new year, so make it count. You’re best off going with a classic (and beautiful) tuxedo; the ‘black and white’ James Bond look is a big hit at New Year’s eve parties. Alternatively, you can usher in a “throwback” look by dawning a neatly cut three-piece suit.
Remember to make sure your shoes are nice and polished. Nothing ruins a great suit or tuxedo than an unkempt pair of dress shoes.
Men, remember to bring in 2016 the right way by with that special someone (hint, hint). FYI – the “kissing on New Year’s” tradition goes back to the time of the ancient Romans. The ancient Germans and English believed that your first kiss – in the new year – set the tone for the remainder of the year. No pressure.
Have a great new year’s eve!
